Reviews
Very small portions for the price you pay. I definitely expected more. Burger was okay/typical. Fries were crispy and a little salty. Dessert was again, okay/typical. Nothing really stood out here, and for the price you pay, it doesn't make me want to return, unfortunately.
Appetizer: Corned beef spring rolls with 1000 island sauce
Hubby ordered meatloaf (came with 2 thick slices), mashed potatoes, and broccoli.
I had Avocado burger with creamy garlic sauce (no bacon) and fries
We stopped in for lunch and a few drafts. Great burger, fries, and beers on tap. My wife enjoyed the house salad and onion soup. Nice atmosphere, was not busy.
Did you ever watch a movie that seemed pretty good but was spoiled by the ending? Well, that is exactly how my trip to the Crosstown Grille went. My wife and I had lunch there today. The food was good (nothing special or outstanding but good enough). I explained to our waitress that I have scaring inside my throat from cancer and I needed a meal that was creamy so I could swallow it. She told me to get the Bacon Bourbon Chicken because it was 2 large chicken breast smothered in bourbon cream sauce. So, I ordered that. When my meal came, I pointed out that it was NOT smothered in bourbon cream sauce. In fact, there was only a small amount of the sauce atop each small chicken breast. She told me she’d be happy to get me some more. Then, she brought me a small ramekin with additional sauce (maybe 2 ounces). I started eating. It was good but honestly, their fancy bourbon cream sauce looks and tastes remarkably like Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup. That said, it was okay but I needed some more in order to swallow the chicken breast meat. I asked the waitress and she said no problem and brought me another small ramekin. We finished our meal and got our check. What a shock! They charged me nearly $20 ($18.50) for my meal and the had the audacity to charge me $2 for each of the two tiny ramekins of “bourbon cream sauce” (or was it Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup). Now, if this meal had been spectacular or if the waitress had even told me that I would be charged extra for each small ramekin of sauce, I would have still been upset but I might have been able to get past it. But, I will NEVER go to the Crosstown Grille again and I highly recommend you don’t either. If you want an excellent meal at a restaurant where they won’t nickel and dime you to death, go to Green Ginger. Their food is amazing and if need additional sauce, they happily provide it free with your meal. And, no, I’m not affiliated with Green Ginger. I just wanted to point out that QUALITY restaurants do NOT nickel and dime their customers.
We really enjoy the restaurant and it's a part of our regular rotation. The menu isn't huge but they have a little bit of most things and it's consistently good. Getting a nice veggie (besides just cole slaw) is a big plus. We usually get an adult beverage and a main entree each.
Good, as long as you don't consider the school cafeteria food. Yeah, my burger and fries were good. My wife's steak medallions were good but not great, she said. But my kid's pizza was straight off the lunch food line at a school, I mean, wow, is that really the best they could do. If I was served that it would've gone back, so it's not ok for a kid either. But we needed to go quick so we just let it go, I don't think he was too happy but he did eat it ok. It was one of those pizzas with the silly little pepperoni squares, you know like on a frozen pizza. Yeah, idk what they are thinking. The beer list was good, but when the first thing I ordered was out, she then told me about the other 3 IPAs that were also out, so it sounds like they have a lot less than it would appear. Idk. I guess I'd go back and try again, but then again maybe not. I do really like that they use the Maguire's mustard on the pretzel, that's good stuff and benefits them with an extra star.
Edit: In response to the restaurant's fair response... Thanks. We get it, things are tough, yep, the usual story especially right now. All understood. The review is just a review of right now, and as things change I'm sure the reviews will too. Thanks for not taking a critical review too hard. Just keep it up, and we'll try again.
We ordered the Monte Cristo, Meatloaf and Burbon chicken. Best food we've had in a long time!! Will, our server, was very kind, knowledgeable and extremely respectful. This is our new favorite restaurant
